Spine Kyphosis is an exaggerated, abnormal forward curve of the upper back (thoracic spine), leading to a “hunchback” or slouching posture. While a normal amount of forward curvature exists in the thoracic region, kyphosis involves a curve of 50 degrees or more on an X-ray, which can cause pain, stiffness, and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing. It can develop at any age and be caused by conditions like Scheuermann disease, osteoporosis, degenerative disc disease, trauma, or poor posture.
